State Cross Country Championships

On Thursday 18th July our WDSS Cross Country team travelled to Yarra Glen to join 1414 other runners to compete in the School Sport Victoria, State Cross Country Championships.

Students earned selection through pathway events that started in May. Each committing to weekly training in the lead up and demonstrating the WDSS school values. It was heartwarming to see our team of 8 students support each other in every aspect of the preparation and competition. We are extremely proud of how the team has progressed as athletes. To be this confident and competitive in their first time at state level, and on top to have two students bringing home state championships titles is outstanding. This is a credit to each of the eight students, inclusive of all staff and the wider community that have helped the athletes along their fitness journey, in particular the weekly WDSS intra school sport programs.

Our students competed against the best multiclass runners selected from 8 regions throughout the state, all resulting in a top 20 and finishing in exceptionally muddy conditions! The following outstanding results were achieved in the multi class age categories:

11yrs Boys 2km 9th - Levi Mc Cart (16.44)

12- 14yrs Girls GOLD MEDAL 1st - Lara Pearson (17.07)

15-16yrs Girls SILVER MEDAL 2nd  - Mia Godwin (18.53)

15-16yrs Boys 9th - Harry White (18.06)

17-20yrs Boys 7th - Andrew White (14.46)18th - Dylan Vescio (21.05)

Thank you to Mark Johns for continual support and bus driver, Jett for supporting our primary students on the course and again the entire WDSS community for making this happen.
